Probably the worst designed toy I have ever bought.

This toy was a complete let down. Whoever designed and tested this toy for Learning Curve clearly does not have and has never played with a small child. A local department store carries a huge selection of John Deer toys and I chose this one because it looked user friendly for my 20 month old son who is quite good at manipulating similar trucks and trains and who LOVES tractors. How wrong I was! Here are the major design issues:
-The trailer only fits on the car hitch. The tractor has a different style hitch which is not compatible....why would you do this??? My son tries desperately to attach the trailer to the tractor which seems like an obvious thing to do and is so frustrated. I could not believe that it did not fit.
-The tractor only fits on the trailer backwards. It will not stay on when facing forward. Again, total frustration when trying to play with this toy.
-The trailer does not stay on the hitch at all. It is virtually impossible to push and play with this toy without the trailer coming off. The hitch is nothing more than a small bump. If it were designed with a slight hook it would work way better. Ironically, the tractor hitch IS designed this way...too bad it won't work with the trailer! Seriously people, get it together.
-As another reviewer mentioned, the hood of the tractor comes off way too easily. Literally the first thing my son did was pull it off. Also, the hood is designed to "bump" up and down as the tractor moves, but it simply pops open and then stays that way. Then the tractor falls off the trailer altogether and/or the trailer comes off of the hitch. Lame.
-The ramp to the trailer is useless. It is too hard to move up and down while in place and could only be done with two hands while holding it.
This toy is marked age 3 and up so my son is on the young side, but he is playing with all kinds of toys that are labeled for an older toddler. He totally gets what he is supposed to do but is unable to successfully play with it. He either cries, throws it around, or simply walks away every time he tires to use it. I guarantee that a three year old would have just as much trouble playing with this toy. I myself have to carefully set all the pieces up and push it just right in order for it to work properly. I had high hopes that my son would enjoy this cute tractor set but after less than 24 hrs in my house the pieces are already scattered everywhere(including that darn tractor hood) and I have very little hope that they will ever be used together. I'm sure they will provide for some entertainment separately, but that is not why I bought this set....as if I need any more random, cheap plastic toys. Oh well.
